Fees and Billing Update

Effective from 3 February 2025, Family Focus Medical has moved to mixed billing.

Why We Made This Change

Since the Medicare rebate freeze in 2013, medical practices like ours have tried to absorb rising costs without passing them on to patients. We’ve held out as long as we could, but it’s now no longer financially sustainable to remain fully bulk billed.

To keep our doors open, our staff paid, and continue delivering quality care, we’ve made the difficult decision to move to a mixed billing model.

What Is Mixed Billing?

Mixed billing means:

  • Some patients and services will still be bulk billed

  • Others will now have a fee, with part of the cost refunded via Medicare

Who Will Still Be Bulk Billed?

We will continue to bulk bill:

  • Pensioners

  • Health Care Card holders

  • Children under 16

  • DVA card holders

Certain services will also remain bulk billed, including:

  • GP Management Plans

  • Team Care Arrangements

  • Care Plan Reviews

  • Mental Health Care Plans and Reviews

What If You Prefer Another Practice?

We understand this change may affect people differently.
If you choose to transfer to another clinic, we respect that and will help by transferring your medical records once we receive an official request from your new practice.
